The economic disruptions caused by COVID-19 are creating new career obstacles – especially for young people. Hiring freezes, cancelled job placements or downsizing mean that young professionals are experiencing significant setbacks in pursuing their goals. It is important to remember, however, that these setbacks don’t have to mean failure.

That’s the message RBC Olympian and Amazing Race Canada runner-up Sam Effah will bring to a special webcast hosted by the Board’s Young Professionals Network. Sam – who would have been competing in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics if not for the pandemic – will talk about his drive to be a leader and how he discovered his passions while representing Canada at the Commonwealth Games. He will take you ‘stride for stride’ through the 100m final and give advice on how to pursue your passion – all while coping with high stress and anxiety through competition. He will take questions from the audience on how to stay motivated despite setbacks and unexpected challenges.

Questions will be moderated by YPN committee member and Ontario Power Generation’s Stakeholder Relations Officer, Alexandria Anderson.
