!SOLD OUT: Help Wanted: Modernizing Employment & Skills Training Services in Ontario

  • Event Date:
  • Event Time:
  • Registration:
  • Location: Toronto Region Board of Trade
  • Room: Lennox Hall - 4th Floor Ballroom, 77 Adelaide St. W., Suite 350 Toronto, ON M5X1C1

Economic expansion has been broad-based in Ontario, with strong job creation, investment, and exports across sectors and communities. Yet, two overwhelming trends remain: businesses struggling to find the right talent and people looking for sustainable and meaningful employment.

The provincial government has signaled an extensive overhaul of employment services, social assistance reforms, apprenticeships, and education programs, all with the goal to drive better employment outcomes, to better align the skills and training system with the needs of businesses, and to streamline system integration of service delivery.

Building on previous work by the Toronto Region Board of Trade, Metcalf Foundation, and United Way Greater Toronto, we will be releasing our new report with guiding principles and initial recommendations as the government undertakes this complex but much-needed system transformation to better serve people and businesses and create more value for the economy.

This report and launch event would not be possible without the generous contribution of JP Morgan Chase.

The Panel:

Sunil Johal, Policy Director at the Mowat Centre (Moderator)

Sarah Chesworth, Regional HR Business Partner at Accenture Technology Canada

Joe Dale, Former Founder and CEO of the Ontario Disability Employment Network

Andrew Reddin, VP Partnerships at NPower Canada

12th Small Business Summit

  • Event Date:
  • Event Time:
  • Registration:
  • Location: Toronto Region Board of Trade
  • Room: 4th Floor - Lennox Hall

The Board brings together the region’s rising entrepreneurs and established business leaders for an exchange of best practices and idea sharing on how to fulfill basic needs and even consider going global. Successful small businesses form the backbone of a thriving economy. But competition gets fiercer as rapidly advancing technology shrinks barriers that restricted small and medium-sized enterprises to serving customers close to home. Fortunately, that same technology paves the way for local SMEs to fuel their own growth by affordably expanding their operations and reaching customers in new markets.

What to expect:

The 12th Small Business Summit will connect growth-ready SMEs to these options and strategies that will take them to the next level.

  • • Expert panels and keynotes from local business leaders & SME founders
  • • Success stories & best practices sharing
  • • Networking opportunities
  • • An updated understanding of new growth strategies

131st Annual Dinner - Advancing the Global Region, Presented by Odgers Berndtson

  • Event Date:
  • Event Time:
  • Registration:
  • Location: Metro Toronto Convention Centre
  • Room: North Building - Constitution Hall

Last year, we asked the Toronto region to embrace the global spotlight. Many eyes are now squarely focused on what our region can—and will—deliver, but our work isn’t done. In an era marked by trade uncertainty and frayed institutions, the big and small successes of global cities display the strength found in communities that understand the benefits of co-operation. From a flourishing tech sector fuelled by powerful incubators, a global financial engine, not to mention world-leading AI research poised to revolutionize the world, it’s time for us to come together to advance the global region.
