About the Minister of Finance

Peter Bethlenfalvy is Ontario’s Minister of Finance. He was elected as MPP for Pickering—Uxbridge in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. 

As Minister of Finance, he is responsible for the management of the province’s finances and building the environment for long-term economic prosperity. Throughout COVID-19, Minister Bethlenfalvy provided the supports Ontario families, workers, and businesses needed through the pandemic. Now, with Premier Ford, he is working to Get It Done for our health care system, communities, and economy to ensure they are stronger than ever before.

Prior to entering public service, Minister Bethlenfalvy served in senior leadership roles for several financial institutions including as President and Chief Operating Officer of TD Securities (USA) and Co-President of DBRS.

He has served on the Board of Directors for many charitable organizations. In 2014, he joined the True Patriot Love Expedition to the magnetic North Pole in support of Canadian military families.

He holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from McGill University which included a year at the HEC School of Management, Paris, and a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

About the Moderator

Deb Hutton has nearly three decades of experience shaping images, solving communications and media crises and leading corporate communication teams for high profile organizations and individuals in both the public and private sectors.

She began her professional career in the fast-paced and highly scrutinized world of politics, advising candidates, elected officials and leaders.  From speech-writing to leading the government’s issues management strategy, Deb undertook a series of progressively senior roles during a decade at Queen’s Park.  She was Senior Advisor to Premier Mike Harris and a member of the campaign strategy team for his two successful elections.

After leaving Queen’s Park, Deb furthered her professional career and skills as Vice President of Government and Corporate Relations for Hydro One at a time of tremendous expansion and change for the utility.

Deb then moved into the private sector as Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for CanWest, Canada’s largest international media company, where she led both the internal and external communication strategy and teams.

For the past few years, Deb has been advising corporations and individuals on media relations, crisis management and strategic corporate communications while raising her two young daughters.

She has continued her interest in politics at all three levels by volunteering her time with premiers, leadership candidates and cabinet ministers, giving advice on strategy as well as coaching for media interviews, speeches and debates.
