The Policy and Advocacy Committee provides oversight of the Board’s pillar committees to ensure our activities and initiatives are integrated and our voice remains strong and cohesive in the public policy arena.
The Policy and Advocacy Committee provides strategic advocacy direction and guides the Board’s external communications and policy statements. This committee also addresses issues beyond the mandate of the pillar committees to ensure that all economic matters are reviewed and acted upon.
In 2013 and 2014 the Policy and Advocacy Committee focused on several key areas:
- Developing a regional economic strategy for the Toronto region focused on strengthening the competitiveness of our key industry clusters such as, human health sciences and food and beverage
- Driving advocacy for increased investment and development of transportation infrastructure in the Toronto region
- Designing a membership, public and stakeholder awareness campaign to engage people on the most important policy issues facing the region in the upcoming municipal election and recent provincial election in 2014.
