SOLD OUT: Help Wanted: Modernizing Employment & Skills Training Services in Ontario

  • Event Date:
  • Event Time:
  • Registration:
  • Location: Toronto Region Board of Trade
  • Room: Lennox Hall - 4th Floor Ballroom, 77 Adelaide St. W., Suite 350 Toronto, ON M5X1C1

Economic expansion has been broad-based in Ontario, with strong job creation, investment, and exports across sectors and communities. Yet, two overwhelming trends remain: businesses struggling to find the right talent and people looking for sustainable and meaningful employment.

The provincial government has signaled an extensive overhaul of employment services, social assistance reforms, apprenticeships, and education programs, all with the goal to drive better employment outcomes, to better align the skills and training system with the needs of businesses, and to streamline system integration of service delivery.

Building on previous work by the Toronto Region Board of Trade, Metcalf Foundation, and United Way Greater Toronto, we will be releasing our new report with guiding principles and initial recommendations as the government undertakes this complex but much-needed system transformation to better serve people and businesses and create more value for the economy.

This report and launch event would not be possible without the generous contribution of JP Morgan Chase.

Guest Speaker

Remarks – David Piccini, MPP & Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities

The Panel:

Sunil Johal, Policy Director at the Mowat Centre (Moderator)

Sarah Chesworth, Regional HR Business Partner at Accenture Technology Canada

Joe Dale, Former Founder and CEO of the Ontario Disability Employment Network

Andrew Reddin, VP Partnerships at NPower Canada
