Last November, the controversial Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 (Bill 148) was passed. It increased the minimum wage to $15/hr, introduced paid personal emergency leave, paid domestic violence leave, equal pay rules and limits on scheduling practices. Many of these changes are effective as of January 1, 2018, with others coming into effect over the next year.

Lawyers from the Employment & Labour Group at Cassels Brock will highlight Bill 148’s significant implications and provide practical tips and strategies to ensure compliancy.

In this session, you will learn:

  • • How Bill 148 amends the Employment Standards Act, 2000, Labour Relations Act, 1995, and Occupational Health and Safety Act and its implications
  • • How the enforcement of employment and labour laws will change
  • • What you can do now to ensure your workplace is compliant
