Carol Wilding, President & CEO

Carol Wilding is President & CEO of the Toronto Board of Trade, Canada’s largest chamber of commerce, representing nearly 10,000 company and individual members.  A non-profit organization founded in 1845, the Board leads and unites business leaders in city building, advocacy and networking, and provides business facilities, publications and services to the Toronto business community.

In addition to her role at the Board, Ms. Wilding serves on the boards of directors of the Toronto City Summit Alliance and Pickering College and was on the Mayor’s Economic Competitiveness Advisory Committee.  She is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.

Her previous career highlights include serving as President of the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, President and CEO of Foster Parents Plan Canada (now Plan Canada), and accountancy roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Ms. Wilding’s work with Foster Parents Plan, an international humanitarian and development organization, garnered several prestigious awards.  They include the Outstanding Public Contribution Alumni Award (Schulich Business School), the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, and the Public Sector Excellence Award for technology.

She graduated from the business school at York University with an Honours degree in Business Administration in 1983 and is a Chartered Accountant.

Betty Carr, Chair, Board of Directors

Betty Carr is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Toronto Board of Trade, elected by her fellow Directors in June 2007 to a one-year term.

Betty Carr is Vice President and Regional Publisher for Metroland Media Group Ltd., a subsidiary of Torstar, in the city of Toronto.  Betty is responsible for nine community newspapers, a monthly business publication and a lifestyle magazine.

Betty has been involved in the newspaper industry for over 25 years.  Most of her involvement has been in Toronto, with a four-year stint in Sydney, Australia where she worked as a manager for a suburban daily.

Betty is actively involved in the community, sitting on several boards including the Toronto Board of Trade.  She has served as Chair of Centennial College’s Board of Governors, vice-chair of the advancement board of University of Toronto Scarborough Campus and served as a director on the boards of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame, Toronto Strategic Business Alliance, Progress Career Planning Centre and the foundation committee of Centenary Hospital’s Neonatal Care Unit, as well as the Toronto Cabinet of the United Way.  She is a founding member of the Scarborough Town Centre Youth Resources Centre.   She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of The Suburban Newspapers of America.

It is Betty’s belief that the community newspaper must take an active role in the community by forging partnerships, sponsoring local events, promoting charitable initiatives and participating on boards and committees.  By giving back in this way, the paper not only reflects what is happening locally for the benefit of its readers, it is also able to make a real difference in the well-being of the community.
