Volunteering at the Toronto Board of Trade

The Toronto Board of Trade relies on its membership to assist in the development and advocacy of its policy positions; to assist the Board in running its multi-facility, and multi-focus operations; to provide input and leadership on specific initiatives; and to support the business and community at large.

Successful operations and advocacy activities at the Toronto Board of Trade rely on the time and expertise of our volunteer members.  Volunteer roles at the Board also offer businesspeople the opportunity to meet new people and gain new skills.

To that end, the Board offers volunteer opportunities in various working group areas. These include:

Secretariat: the Board of Directors and its sub-groups, manage the operations of the Board.
Policy: various policy working groups develop the Board's policy positions and advocate them to government.
Local Chambers: provide leadership to the Etobicoke, North York Scarborough Chambers of Commerce; each of which is a division of the Board.
YP: engages the younger members of the Board in community and activity-based initiatives.

Volunteer Charter

The Board has also developed a Volunteer Charter to guide the efforts and encourage a positive working environment.

Vision
In its role as the champion of a competitive and vibrant Toronto, the Toronto Board of Trade depends on the time, effort and expertise of its member volunteers. This diverse group facilitates the Board’s successful operations and represents all types of business – sizes, sectors and locations – across the city.

Toronto Board of Trade volunteers provide leadership that enables the Board to act as a business catalyst and offer the business tools required for our members’ success.  Volunteer time spent on policy and advocacy activities create meaningful opportunities for governments to work with business on issues critical to Board of Trade members.  Volunteer time spent on programs and operations allows our members to contribute to building a competitive Toronto.

In return for their contribution, Board of Trade volunteers gain knowledge and skills, and develop new relationships with Toronto’s best and brightest business talent. They also gain the satisfaction that they are contributing to the community and acting as champions for a healthy and strong Toronto.

Volunteer Privileges and Responsibilities
