Board's First Commerce and Culture Event a Smashing Success
The Royal Ontario Museum will soon unveil its most significant
exhibition to date. On June 17, members had the opportunity
to experience it first at the Toronto Board of Trade. More
than 150 guests joined us at the Downtown Centre for
mediterranean-inspired cocktails and hors d'ouevres provided
by Oliver & Bonacini. At the welcome
reception, attendees had an exclusive opportunity to meet
and speak with the leaders of one of our city’s most important
cultural institutions. Guests then took their seats to hear
fascinating facts and untold secrets behind one of the most powerful
archaeological finds of the 20th century.
ROM CEO William Thorsell opened the discussion, providing his
perspective on the impact of this landmark exhibition on our
community and the vital commercial and cultural contributions the
museum makes to the Toronto region. Attendees were then treated to a
curator lecture by Dr. Julian Siggers, the ROM's Vice President
of Programs and Content Development. Dr. Siggers presented a
slide show and insightful overview of the amazing discovery of the
Scrolls in the late 1940s, their incredible journey from the
deserts of the Middle East to the corner of Avenue and Bloor, and
the significance of these ancient documents to every aspect of
Western culture.
The evening marked the first event in the Board's Commerce and
Culture series. This brand new series is aimed at exploring the
immeasurable contributions our city's rich cultural offerings make
to the economic prosperity and quality of life of the entire
Toronto region.
