Annual Dinner 2010
More than 1,200 business and political leaders gathered to network
and celebrate at the Board’s 122nd Annual Dinner.
Hosted by CBC’s Senior Business Correspondent, Amanda Lang, the
gala featured a rousing keynote address from Frank McKenna, Deputy
Chair, TD Bank Financial Group. Federal Transport Minister John Baird,
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Toronto Mayor David Miller each
brought greetings from their respective governments. Guests were also
treated to world-class entertainment from Toronto’s own Opera
Atelier.

Vote Toronto 2010: George Smitherman
On December 11, attendees rose to their feet following an impassioned
address by George Smitherman, MPP for Toronto Centre-Rosedale. It was
Smitherman’s first speech to the business community since
declaring his intent to run for Toronto’s mayoralty in 2010. The
event also marked the inaugural discussion in the Board’s Vote
Toronto 2010 Speaker Series.

Nadir Mohamed, president and CEO of Rogers
Communications
On November 13, Nadir Mohamed, president and CEO of Rogers
Communications, spoke to nearly 600 Toronto Board of Trade members and
guests about his fascinating career, his company’s service
philosophy, the rapid evolution of the communications marketplace and
the future of information communications technology in Canada. The event
was part of the Board’s KPMG Technology Series.

A Salon Evening: Iphigénie en Tauride,
Presented by the Baroque Court of Opera Atelier
As part of our Commerce and Culture series, the Board proudly
hosted patrons of Opera Atelier for a spectacular evening of music,
dance and discussion with the company’s creative team. Guests were
treated to a sneak peek at selections from the company’s November
performance, Iphegenie en Tauride.

Michael Ignatieff, MP, Leader of the Liberal
Party of Canada
September 21, 2009
Before a sold-out room of 700 business and political leaders at the
Toronto Hilton, Liberal Party Leader Michael Ignatieff took to the Board
of Trade podium to unveil his economic plan for the nation — a
plan that included some key policy proposals long advocated by the Board
of Trade. Following his address, Mr. Ignatieff toured the hall, greeting
members and guests before attending an onsite press conference.

2009 Annual Luncheon and Annual General Meeting
June 24, 2009
The Board of Trade looked back on a groundbreaking year at its 2009
Annual General Meeting. Members were invited to hear a detailed overview
of the newly released 2008-2009 Annual Report from the Board of
Trade’s leadership team. We recognized our 25, 30, 40 and 50 year
members for their longstanding commitment to the Board of Trade. The AGM
was hosted by the Board Chair Paul Massara and featured an operation
report from the President and CEO, Carol Wilding.
Following the Board’s 2009 AGM, more than 200 attendees
gathered at the Annual Luncheon featuring a keynote address by Metrolinx
President and CEO, Robert Prichard. Mr. Prichard discussed the more
than $10 billion investment in new infrastructure projects for the
Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area (GTHA). He thanked governments and the
Toronto Board of Trade for helping to bring an effective regional
transit and transportation plan to life.

Dead Sea Scrolls
June 17, 2009
The Board’s First Commerce and Culture Event was a smashing
success thanks to The Royal Ontario Museum. The ROM’s most
significant exhibition to date, the Dead Sea Scrolls, was introduced
first at the Toronto Board of Trade. Following the opening remarks
by the ROM CEO William Thorsell, Dr. Julian Siggers spoke about the
amazing discovery of the Scrolls and their fascinating stories. More
than 150 guests enjoyed an evening filled with culture,
Mediterranean-inspired cocktails and hors d’ouevres provided by
Oliver & Bonacini.

Police Officer of the Year Awards
June 4, 2009
Upholding a long tradition since 1967, the Toronto Board of Trade
proudly hosted the Annual Police Officer of the Year Awards. Fellow
officers and guests honoured those who demonstrated exceptional skill,
bravery, compassion and a deep commitment to making Toronto a safe city
to live and work. This year’s winner, Police Const. Ann-Marie
Tupling, was recognized for her diligent investigative work in the
family violence and child abuse squad of 55 Division’s
Investigation Unit.

2009 Annual Golf Tournament
May 25, 2009
Toronto Board of Trade members and guests enjoyed an annual spring
tradition at the Country Club in Woodbridge. Over 200 golfers enjoyed a
great day of networking, wonderful food and sunshine, followed by an
exciting awards dinner. Toronto Maple Leafs legend Rick Vaive did a
fantastic job hosting the fun-filled day. Proceeds from this
year’s tournament went to Reach for the Rainbow.

Mayor’s Luncheon
May 14, 2009
Celebrating over a decade of constructive interaction between city
leaders and the business community, Mayor David Miller delivered his
annual state-of-the city address at the Board of Trade’s 11th
Annual Mayor’s Luncheon in Scarborough. He acknowledged the
challenges of the economic downturn and the city’s efforts to ease
the burden, including city tax reductions and Toronto’s strong
growth potential in the future.

8 Chefs Dazzle at Downtown Centre
April 2009
The Board’s official service provider, Oliver & Bonacini
dazzled guests with a spectacular evening of exquisite edibles and cool
drinks, showcasing the Downtown Centre as one of Toronto’s premier
event venues. Guests enjoyed a suite of superbly staged cocktail
settings, featuring food samples prepared by alll eight of Oliver &
Bonacini’s chefs. It was the first time that all these culinary
artists appeared together, including partner Michael Bonacini and the
Board’s own Chef Jamie Meireles.

2009 Annual Dinner
January 25, 2009
More than 1,400 business, political and thought leaders gathered for
the Toronto Board of Trade’s 121st Annual Dinner. Attendees
enjoyed a spectacular evening of networking, inspiration and
entertainment, along with remarks from Premier Dalton McGuinty and
Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Lisa Raitt. Anthony S.
Fell, a legendary icon of Canadian Business gave a highly anticipated
keynote address, “Back to Basics” (Hyperlink). The evening
was highlighted by the Board’s launch of a revitalized strategic
direction and visual expression.
